Dejavato Indonesia Newsletter

Dejavato Indonesia Mid Term Volunteer (MTV) from AFS Nederland
DEJAVATO hosts a volunteer from AFS Nederland joining the MTV Program for two months. She started her program on the first Monday of July (2/7) and will finish the project on 27/8.

First Week (1/7 – 6/7), Dejavato conducted basic training for her at Dejavato office. The training basically on learning Indonesian Language, local customs and culture, language practice and some excursions.

Dejavato IndonesiaDuring the first week she was hosted by Indonesian family. To implement her ability in Indonesian language, she was trained and practiced Indonesian language by doing conversation with the hostDejavato Indonesia family neighborhood as well as took her to the traditional market for shopping and do bargaining with the sellers by using Indonesian language. Dejavato also took her for excursion together with some local volunteers to Semarang city tour, Borobudur Temple, Jogjakarta Royal Palace, Water Castle, and Malioboro.

Dejavato IndonesiaSecond Week (7/7 – 14/7), She continued her project at Sokawera Village, Banyumas Regency. It’s located about 150 kilometers on the South West of Semarang city. Dejavato IndonesiaShe stayed with local host family, Mr. Adib, together with another Dejavato’s MTV (Mid Term Volunteer) from USA. During her stay, she conducted English and Dutch teaching program for local students at Argowilis Center. Argowilis Center is a center established by local people for giving free education its local children.

Dejavato IndonesiaDejavato IndonesiaDuring her stay, she did not only teaching program, but she also had various activities like planting rice, learning how to make coconut sugar, meeting with local communities, traditional games competition, how to make “tofu”, fishing, learning how to play traditional musical instrument “Calung”, making handicrafts, and excursion to Cipendok Waterfall and Baturaden with her host family.

Third Week (15/7 – 20/7). After from Sokawera Village, she moved to Sidorejo Village, it’s about 60 kilometers South of Semarang City. The Sidorejo Village is located on the slope of Sumbing Mountain which is quite remote area with beautiful nature surrounds and cool climate. In this village, she stays with Mr. Moko, as the host family. In this week, she teaches English at Sidorejo Elementary School, besides she also have other tasks given by Dejavato, to educate the students how to make health living, collecting and manage the garbage, and cutting students nails.


Mid Term Volunteer (MTV) from VFP USA
Dejavato IndonesiaDEJAVATO hosts a volunteer from VFP USA for joining the MTV (Mid Term Volunteer) at Sokawera Village from 01st to 30th July 2007. She is our first American volunteer hosted by Dejavato, and we are very proud to have her.

Before sending her to the project site, Dejavato conducted one day training for her about her project, local customs and culture, Dejavato Indonesiaand Indonesian language course. We also held excursion program by sending her and the Dutch volunteer to visit some interesting places like Borobudur Temple, Jogjakarta City, Jogjakarta Royal Palace, Water Castle and Malioboro.

Dejavato IndonesiaShe is the volunteer who chose Sokawera Village as her project site which is located about 150 kilometers on the South West of Semarang city, that can be reached about 6 hours by car. Her main activity is teaching English for local students at Argowilis Center as well as local people who are interested in learning English. Dejavato IndonesiaBesides, she also have additional activities like learning making coconut sugar, fishing, making tofu, planting rice, playing traditional musical instrument “Calung”, and excursion with her host family.
She is really great motivator! She is very active in joining the local communities meeting, discussion and seminar. She was asked to be speaker for giving motivation for the local mothers quite often. We were also happily celebrated her birthday in the project site by making traditional ceremony for her. HAPPY B’DAY SHILA!!!


Mid Term Volunteer (MTV) from Germany
Dejavato IndonesiaMs. Liebernecht is a volunteer from Germany who studies in nursing. She takes one month MTV project at Dejavato by choosing the PUSKESMAS (Public Health Center) in Semarang City. She started her project on 6th July 2007. During her stay in Semarang, she is hosted by local staff of Puskesmas.

During joining the project, she will have project in two different PUSKESMAS. In the first 2 weeks she does voluntary works at PUSKESMAS Karangayu, then continue to PUSKESMAS Pandanaran for next two weeks.

Dejavato IndonesiaHer main activity is assisting local doctors by doing various tasks that hopefully will enrich her experience and knowledge about Indonesian health system. On her base Puskesmas Karangayu, she helps the local doctor in visiting and examine the patients, taking part in Posyandu ( Regular Public Service) for babies, mothers and elder people.
